    Thanks for the great round-up, Helen. I honestly believe that it’s a great way to get a new design for a small start-up site. I mean a link in the footer is not a problem for most of us. I love that people do it for us.

    I haven’t checked these, but in the past, I’ve discovered that “free” WP themes have more than just a link for the author. Most of them come with some encrypted code embedded. The encrypted code can be anything from a disguised affiliate link (usually to something to which you would probably not want to associate your name) to malware crap. Unless you have the knowledge and tools to examine “free” WP themes for this sort of thing,  you should stick with the themes you can download directly from the WordPress site.

    I seriously cannot live without this plugin, as it makes the
    sites I build perform to my expectations, instead of slowly crawling. And yes,
    I think every site should be cached to get the maximum performance for each and
    every user, not just when you start hitting social sites.
