3 Tips For Keeping Office Relationships Healthy
Interaction in our day to day lives are the stepping stones that keep us alive. The world would be a very boring and sad place if people didn’t have relationships. Don’t get me wrong, I’m NOT talking about dating relationships I’m talking about healthy friendships. Today we will look at 3 tips for keeping your office relationships healthy. Working in a office environment can be tough at times, there is always something that irritates you. It could be the 4 clocks on the wall showcasing different time zones. The coffee machine being boiled every 5 minutes, 2 employees constantly laughing or complaining. There are a lot of different distractions that can arise in office environments.
I am here to give you some tips on how to stray clear of irritation and keep your office relationships healthy, promising and professional.
DEF: Careful thought; deliberation (thefreedictionary.com)
Consideration in a office environment is key to having people respect you and your time. Perhaps you are just having a off day and don’t feel as energetic as the others do, this doesn’t mean they have to stop doing what they are doing because you don’t feel well. Remember that if you took their feelings, time and emotions into consideration when they weren’t feeling well, they would have done the same for you today.
Be considerate in what you do around the office, don’t leave stuff lying around, if they ask you to help them with something and you have time or you know what to do, help them out quickly. Don’t just shrug your shoulders, remember you are a team so working together is key.
2. Offer, Offer and OFFER
DEF: To make available; afford. (thefreedictionary.com)
Offering help to fellow employee will not only make them see a different side of you, but also show your employer that you are someone that can work in a team and manage tasks well. I’m not saying you should offer help or services every second of every day, but when you leave your desk to go make some coffee why not OFFER your co-workers some too. They will not only reply with a big smile, but see you as a friend and not only a co-worker. It turns out that office coffee machines can be a surprisingly great source of coworker bonding!
DEF: To feel or show deferential regard for; esteem. (thefreedictionary.com)
You have to show respect to get respect. Respecting those around you will not only be beneficial in the long run, but right away too. Ever noticed that you will never call your boss fat to his or her face, but you don’t think twice to shout across the office at Lucy calling her a fat w#$#e? Respect isn’t just given, it has to be earned amongst people. If you show respect towards your fellow co-workers, they will respect you. Remember to always open a door and let girls walk through first. This is something I see a lot of guys forget. Remember to also always say hello and bye to people around you or people (potential clients) coming into the office. Respect is key.
I hope these tips will help you setup a better and more friendly office environment amongst your employees or co-workers.
