This question gets asked a lot by new bloggers and even more experienced bloggers. How do you effectively promote your articles? In this article we will be looking at some methods I used to promote my articles when I started Creativeoverflow and how I then pulled back to a more convenient way of sharing.
1. Social Sharing Networks
Sharing your articles on social networks is definitely a must. Simply because a lot of people shares their articles there as well. This means traffic and traffic means hits. Depending on your Niche you are going to have to experiment with the social networks that give you the most traffic, in Creativeoverflow’s case we work through the following.

There are loads more, but these are the networks that we focus on primarily. 1st Webdesigner has compiled a great list of sharing sites. See it 53 Promotional Websites to Gain Traffic Quick and Easy
2. Twitter and Facebook
Twitter and Facebook sharing is definitely a must. Getting your new articles out to your friends on Facebook and you fans on twitter will send the article plummeting from person to person, usually ending up with 40 – 100 retweets in the first hour of posting the article. Thus its a great way to show your friends on facebook what you actually get up to and what your passion is.

The glamor about Facebook is that the possibilities are endless. Even if you don’t have a lot of friends on Facebook you can still get your name out there by creating a Fan Page and then Sharing it with all your friends and then asking them to do the same for you. It is really easy to setup your own fanpage just follow the link below to start setting up your fanpage.

3. Submit News to Top Sites
Always a good start. Submitting your latest Articles to news feeds on top websites can be a great source of traffic. Make sure that you only submit quality articles though, if the publisher likes the article he/she will definitely share it with the community. There are a lot of sites that have news feeds but I will only be naming the top 5 that I use, you can check out more sites on 53 Promotional Websites to Gain Traffic Quick and Easy

4. Promoting Articles via E-Mail
I did a article on promoting your articles via email a while ago,Is Article Promotion really worth it? I had a fair amount of responses towards it. Promoting your articles via e-mail could establish a relationship between yourself and another blogger/person. Not only do you interact with them, they can deliver their critique on the subject at hand immediately. My article promotions usually consist of sending my e-mail list a e-mail containing the new article title and then a link for the promotions. I have supplied you with a image below of what my promotion link looks like.

Promoting via e-mail can have its ups and downs, but thus far its only been positive results. Give it a go.
5. Search Engine Optimization Keywords
You are going to have to focus on every part of your article if you really want to promote it. WordPress has a All in One SEO plugin that you can install, this also adds a keyword box in your post creation page. Make sure when you set down your keywords for you article that they are relevant to the article and that they are at least search able.
Conclusion:
I hope that these simple tips will help you effectively promote your articles. Promotion is really a trial and error thing. You have to find out what works for you and your blog, some people prefer certain social sites over others and they have the right to their opinion. So how do you promote your articles?

Hi Jacques, thanks for mentioning tripwire magazine. A lot of bloggers submit their articles on my site and I’m really happy for that. To make sure contributors get more than just a link in the sidebar for 5 min. and on the community link page for a few days I put all submitted links into a post every 2-3 day and the links will be in tripwire for ever and get exposure on twitter, rss etc. This should make it worth spending 2 min. on submitting new articles. ex. http://www.tripwiremagazine.com/2010/04/150-need-to-check-out-fresh-articles-for-designers-and-developers.html

I tried the whole sharing via email/promotional page thing for a while, but I felt a little cheap doing it. I really want people to share my content because they find it valuable, not because they feel pressured or obligated.
Just some thoughts. Thanks for the post.

I like the idea of sending out article pitches with an extra focus on how you present it — I assume it increase the response rates quite significantly compared to a standard email..

Ooh shoot i just wrote a large comment and as soon as i strike reply it came up blank! Please tell me it worked right? I dont want to upload it again if i don’t have to! Possibly the blog glitced out or i am an idiot, the second option doesnt surprise me lol. thanks for an excellent weblog!
I think that promoting your articles effectively is best accomplished by having friends in this business. Not every article or blog post that you write is going to be worthy of promoting the heck out of. But, sometimes you just know that you have produced a great piece. Unless you already have a lot of followers or subscribers, it can be difficult for a new piece to get the kind of publicity that it deserves.
That is where friends come in. If you have a nice tight circle of friends where you can request a little friendly link love, it really helps kickstart a good piece of content.
