I couldn’t agree more with your points on how to get more comments – especially with running contests! Another great one is to create a “de-lurking” post, or a post that asks your readers to introduce themselves. This is also a good way for your readers to meet each other and share what they do.

You have a statement their Tod but, the plugin has a option that you set.
If a comment isn’t longer than 50 words It gets tagged as nofollow.
The user can decide on the actual length that he wants.

Deactivate the ‘nofollow’? Really? Each new commenter with a website will take away more of the page’s link juice. Plus you’d essentially be vouching for all these sites (unless the search engines are smart enough to figure out the URLs are blog comments).
I too, prefer the CommentLuv plugin.
