30 Realistic Vector Illustrations

Vector images are an essential part of designs across all mediums, from web to mobile to print. We use apps like Adobe Illustrator to create everything from icons to illustrations. But one reputation the vector has a hard time shaking is that it’s impossible to create anything that’s not at least somewhat cartoony — at least when compared to the rich photo-manipulations that Photoshop users create.

Here are 30 examples of super-realistic vector illustrations that should break that misconception if you still hold it. While it takes considerable work, it is possible to create complicated images that, to the untrained eye, are indistinguishable from life.

If you look at the meshes many of these artists provide with the final images to give a sense of the complexity involved, it’s obvious that creating such photorealistic work in Illustrator is a time-consuming job with a lot of attention to detail involved. We might not all be capable of creating such detailed vector art – it’s something that requires many years of practice, and if you make your living creating logo designs and icons that sort of time is hard to come by. The best art is, after all, usually the hardest to create, and these images have incited no small number of stunned looks.

Have you got any favorite pieces of realistic vector art? Feel free to share them in the comments!

Holy cow! Most of these are so realistic it’s just insane. It makes me worried that companies won’t need to hire models and celebrities for print and digital still ads anymore!! :)

Yes, there are some amazing vector illustrations, but the third image from bottom links to a deviantart page where the artist provides info on the tools he used and it turns out that’s a photograph, not a vector. Got to be a little more careful about that “uncanny valley.” :D

Thanks for that. A person has to be careful, you are right. Will look into it next time for sure :)

I don’t get it why people bother making vectors look that realistic… You can just use the original pic then lol…
